Fangchenggang is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, which is a coastal city, border city, and port city. Fangchenggang is situated in the most southwestern part of mainland China coastline, backed by the Southwest, facing Southeast Asia, Beibu Gulf to the south, and bordered by Vietnam on the southwest. It is the only full-seascape ecological bay city on the banks of the Beibu Gulf and is known as the "Southwest Gateway and the Pearl of the Borderlands." The city is praised as the city of Oxygen, the hometown of China's golden camellia, the hometown of Chinese Egrets, the hometown of China's longevity, and the second-largest hometown of overseas Chinese in Guangxi.

 

Fangchenggang City is located in the core area of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone and the joint part of South China Economic Circle, Southwest Economic Circle and ASEAN Economic Circle. It is border on the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and is the only city in China that is connected with ASEAN by land and sea. Fangchenggang City administers 2 municipal districts (gangkou district and fangcheng districts), 1 county (Shangsi County), and 1 county-level city (Dongxing City).

Weather

Fangchenggang is sited in a low latitude area and has a distinct marine monsoon climate. Fangchenggang is affected by the combined effects of the ocean and the Shiwan dashan Mountains, and it has sufficient rainfall. Precipitation in this area is mainly concentrated from June to September each year, accounting for about 71% of annual precipitation. Fangchenggang is less foggy, and fog generally occurs early in the morning and late in the winter and early spring. The concentration is relatively low.

 

Population

At the end of 2016, the resident population was 929,000, an increase of 10,600 from the end of the previous year, of which the urban population was 523,600. The annual birth rate was 14.66‰, the population mortality rate was 4.72 ‰, and the natural population growth rate was 9.94 ‰. According to statistics from the public security department, the registered population of the city at the end of the year was 972,000, an increase of 15,900 from the end of the previous year.

 

Education

The Fangchenggang City Intermediate People's Court and the Tsinghua University School of Law began cooperation in 2010. The School of Law of Tsinghua University established a practical base for student affairs at the Intermediate People's Court of Fangchenggang City. In 2012, Fangchenggang Campus of Guangxi University of Finance and Economics was formally established.

There are Dongxing Guanyin Temple and Fangcheng Shuiyue Temple (Fangcheng Lingfeng Temple). Fangchenggang City has 115 Buddhist believers and about 35,000 Buddhists. In Fangchenggang City in 2005, there were 12 places for religious activities, more than 3,000 Christians, more than 5,000 religious people, and 12 religious sites that were approved for registration. After the establishment of Fangchenggang City, the Bureau of Religious Affairs was established to manage religious affairs in accordance with the party’s religious policy.
