Guangxi Introduction
Guangxi province is a provincial administrative unit, and has a capital of Nanning and 13 other cities: Guilin, Liuzhou, Hezhou, Hechi, Bise, Laibin Guigang, Wuzhou, Yulin, Beihai, Qinzhou, Fangchenggang and Chongzuo. Its full name is Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and its short name is Gui. Guangxi is the abbreviation of west lu of Guangnan which is the name of Guangxi in Song Dynasty(960AD-1279AD ), and Gui has the origin from Guilin prefecture set in the Qin Dynasty( 221BC-207BC). Guangxi has a history for more than two thousand years, and becomes a part of China from the Qin Dynasty and officially becomes a province in 1363.
Geography
Guangxi situates in the south of China, from the latitude 20°54′N to 26°24′N and from the longitude 104°26′ E to 112°04′E, adjacent to Guangdong province in the east, Hunan province in the north, Guizhou province in northwest, Yunan province in the west, and South China Sea in the south, having a coastline of 1595 kilometers and it borders on Vietnam in the southwest. It has a land area of 237.6 thousand square kilometers, ranking the ninth among all provinces and regions in the total area, and a sea area of 40 thousand square kilometers. Guangxi locates in the southeast of the Yunnan-Guizhou plateau, and tilts from northwest to southeast, with numerous hills in the whole Guangxi and flat ground in the center and south. It has a large land area of karst landform covering 37.8 percent of the total area, and 697 islands with the Weizhou island as the biggest.
Located in a low latitude, with the tropic of cancer through its areas, Guangxi has a climate of subtropical monsoon featured with hot and humid summer and mild winter. It has the highest extreme temperature of 33.7-42.5℃ and lowest temperature of -8.4-2.9℃, and the average annul temperature of 16.5-23.1℃. and it has abundant rainfall and sufficient sunlight and heat. With lots of rivers , Guangxi is abundant with water resource. Xijiang is the biggest river, and Li river is the most well-known river due to its beautiful scenery. Water in those rivers is mainly supplied by rainfall. Due to the climate of subtropical monsoon, rainfall in Guangxi is concentrated in months from March to September, thus rivers have a flood season from March to September.
Natural Resource
Guangxi also has rich marine resource due to its long coastline and natural good ports and a variety of mineral resources with large reserves. It is one of the producing areas of nonferrous metals, and has 145 proven nonferrous metals and 97 proven mineral reserves, thus it has a name as home of nonferrous metals.
Population and Ethnic Group
Guangxi has a permanent resident population of has a population of 48.38 million according to demographic statistics in 2016, with 25.1 million of men, and 23.2 million of woman, and the sex ratio is 108.01 (100 women). In terms of age structure, people over 16 and under 60 years old account for 61.8%, and people over 60 years old account for 14.8 %, and people over 65 years old account for 10 %, and its population enters into the aging phase.
Guangxi is inhabited with dozens of ethnic groups, with 12 ethnic groups living here from generation to generation, like the Han, Zhuang, Yao, Miao, Dong, Mulao, Maonan, Hui, Jing, Shui people. The population of the Han is 28.92 million, accounting for 62.8% of the total population of Guangxi, and the Han are the biggest ethnic group living in Guangxi. The population of the Zhuang people is 14.44 millions, accounting for 31.39 % of the total population of Guangxi, and the Zhuang is the biggest ethnic minority. The population of ethnic minorities accounts for 37.18% of the total population of Guangxi, which makes Guangxi have the biggest population of ethnic minorities in China. Every ethnic group except the Hui has its own dialect, like the Zhuang dialect while some dialects are endangered. In Guangxu, there are six major Chinese dialects, like Cnatonese(baihua), , Guiliu mandarin, Kejia dialect, and Pinghua.
Economy and Tourism
Through a rapic development in the past twenty years, Guangxi has made great achievements in every aspects, espeically in economy, and cities become more modern and beautiful, and lots of modern buildings and roads are built and provide much convenience to people's living.
2017GDP of Guangxi is 2039.625 billion yuan with a rise of 7.3 %, and the value added of the first industry is 290. 687 billion yuan with a rise of 4.1 %, the value added of the second industry is 929.784 billion yuan with a rise of 6.6% and the value added of the third industry is 819,154 billion yuan with a rise of 9.2%. in all cities of Guangxi, Nanning has the biggest GDP, 411.883 billion yuan with a rise of 8.0 %.
Tourism is an important part of the third industry, and Guangxi has lots of tourism resource, natural landscapes and historical and cultural landscapes. Natural landscapes include Li river scenery, Longji rice terrace, and the Elephant Trunk Hill in Guilin, Weizhou island scenery in Beihai, and Detian waterfall in Chongzuo which is the fourth biggest transnational waterfall in the world, and the largest in Asia. Cultural landscapes are mainly about historical relics, old buildings, and art works, and include many well-kept ancient towns like the Huangyao ancient town and the Zuojiang huashan rock art cultural landscape which was listed as worlds heritage site in 2016.
