Geographical Environment

Chongzuo, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is China’s most convenient land route to ASEAN, one of the important nodes of the China-Vietnam Corridor and the Nanning-Singapore Economic Corridor, and one of the cities in the Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone.

Location

Chongzuo City is located in the southwest part of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, south of the Tropic of Cancer. Geographical coordinates lie between latitude 21°36`~23°22`N and longitude 106°33`~108°6`E, facing Southeast Asia, relying on the Southwest, connecting Nanning and Qinzhou to the east and southeast, adjacent Baise City to the north and border Vietnam to the west, with a total area of 17,440 square kilometers.

 

Administrative Division

As of 2018, Chongzuo City administers 1 city district of Jiangzhou District and 5 counties in Fusui County, Daxin County, Longzhou County, Ningming County, and Tianhe County, overseeing Pingxiang City. The government is located in Chongzuo City Administrative Center, No. 1 Xincheng Road, Chengnan New District, Chongzuo City.

 

Weather

Chongzuo City is located in the south of the Tropic of Cancer and is a subtropical monsoon climate zone with mild climate and abundant rainfall. With annual sunshine hours of more than 1,600, the average temperature in January is 13.8°C, July's average temperature is 28.1°C, and the average annual temperature is 20.8°C-22.4°C. The annual frost-free period lasts more than 340 days and annual rainfall is 1200mm. There is plenty of light throughout the year, with light and water in the same season. The summer is long and short in winter.

 

Hydrology

The river in Chongzuo belongs to the Zuojiang River system. The total length of the Zuojiang River is 539 kilometers. It originates from the gulong Mountain at the junction of Ningming County and Vietnam. It is called Qiqiong River at the upper source and Pinghe River at the domestic level, merging with the Shuikou River in the Longzhou County and is called Lijiang. It joins the largest tributary of the Mingjiang River and called Zuojiang. The average annual runoff of the Zuojiang River is 20.9 billion cubic meters, and the basin has a large drop, with a drainage area of 31595 square kilometers.

Transportation

The border line is 533 kilometers long and is the longest prefecture-level city on the border line of Guangxi. It is a land port city that connects the railways, highways, and China's domestic transportation network on the southern border of China.

There are 11 border crossings. Among them, there are 3 first-class national ports, 4 local and second-class small-scale trade ports, 4 meeting ports, and 15 border-city trade points, of which 3 in Ningming, 4 in Pingxiang, 5 in Longzhou, and 3 in Daxin. Chongzuo is 90 km away from Nanning Wuxu International Airport.

 

City flower

Kapok is the city flower of Chongzuo city. Kapok (Geliao in Zhuang dialect) is also known as the heroic tree, belongs to the subtropical tree species. It blooms in March and April each year, with orange-red or orange-yellow color, and it is one of the characteristic trees in Zhuang. The tree species are mainly distributed in southern China and the most common seen in dry and hot valleys along the You river, Zuo river and Hongshui Rivers. Chongzuo City is suitable for the growth of the tree due to its hot and dry karst topography.
