Nanning Introduction

Nanning is the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the economic, political, and cultural center of Guangxi, and has an abbreviated name of “Yong”.  Nanning is in the south of Guangxi, covering an area of about 22 thousand square kilometers. It is warm in the whole year, and plants are green in the whole year due to abundant sunshine and rainfall, which gives Nanning a honorable names as green city. It is the junction of coastal regions and inland regions, the junction of southwest economic zone in China and Southeast Asia economic zone. It is the city with permanent rights to holding China-Asian Expo, a big city of the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration, and a gateway city of the Maritime Silk Road.

Its administrative region is divided into seven districts, 5counties, 84 towns, 15 townships, 3 nationality townships and 22 streets. The seven districts are qingxiu district, xingning district, jiangnan district, xixiangtang district, liangqing district, yongning district and wuming district. It also has five functional zones, Nanning economic and technological development zone, Nanning high-tech industrial development zone, Nanning-Southeast Asian economic development zone, Nanning-Xianhu economic development zone and Nanning coastal economic corridor development zone

Geography

Naming has a terrain of basin centering on the Yong River valley, and the valley opens to the east, and it is surrounded by mountains in the north, south, and west. It has five types of landscape, flat ground, low mountain, rocky mountain, hill and tableland, and flat ground is the biggest, with an area of about one thousand square kilometer.

Nanning is in the south of the tropic of cancer, and has a climate of subtropical monsoon. In the whole year, it has sufficient sunlight, and abundant rainfall. It has an average annual temperature of 21.6 degree centigrade , an extreme high temperature of 40.4 degree centigrade, and an extreme low temperature of -2.4 degree centigrade. It has a long summer and a short winter, and its summer is hot and humid, and winter is mild and a little dry. It has an average annual rainfall of 1304.2 millimeters, and rainfall is intensive in summer. It may be influenced by typhoon, because it is close to South China Sea.

Rivers in Nanning belong to Pearl river system, and the major rivers are Yong river, You river,  Zuo river, Hongshui river, Wuming river, and Bachi river. Yong river is the biggest river in Nanning, and it has a length of 116 kilometers in Nanning and a drainage area of about 73 thousand square kilometers. Its upstream is You river and Zuo river.

Population and Ethnic Group

In 2016, Nanning has a permanent resident population of about 7,060,000, and a registered resident population of about 7,510,000, and it has an urbanization rate of  60.23% in the permanent resident. 48 ethnic groups inhabit in Nanning, and the Zhuang people is indigenous people, and they are the main ethnic minority. The Han people move to Nanning after  Guangxi becomes a part of China in the Qin Dynasty( 221 BC-207BC). The Hui people move Nanning after the Yuan Dynasty(1271AD-1368 AD), and many other ethnic groups move here after 1949. Ethnic groups having a population over 10,000  in Nanning are the Han, Zhuang, Yao, Miao, Mulao, Man, Maonan, Dong, Hui, and Tujia.

Economy

As the capital of Guangxi, it has a GDP of 411.8 billion yuan in 2017, which is the largest GDP among all cities of Guangxi, and added value of the first industry is about 40.4 billion, added value of the second industry is 159.9 billion yuan, and the added value of the third industry is 211.5 billion yuan. Nanning is one of the production bases of tropical fruit, grain and commercial crops. Nanning has been allocated money in education, thus it has lots of universities and schools of higher education. It also has been allocated lots of money and talents in city construction and other things, thus it is more developed and modern than other cities in Guangxi. as a city of several types of landscape, it has rich natural attractions, like qingxiushan scenery spot, Jiahecheng hot spring, Minge lake scenery spot, Nanhu park, botanical garden, animal zoo and Liangfengjian national forest park. With a long history of development, it also has many historic cultural landscapes, like Yangmei ancient town, science and technology museum, and museum of ethnology.

Natural Resource

Nanning has rich natural resources. It has rich water resource, since it has abundant rainfall and lots of rivers and shallow groundwater. It has 63 minerals proven in reserve, energy metals like coal, black metals like iron and manganese, and nonferrous metals like copper, and 590 mineral deposits proven which includes 9 mineral deposits of large scale. It also has rich animal and plant resources. There are lots of animals under first-class and second-class protection inhabiting in natural reserves in Nanning, and plants of a huge number are found in those natural reserves. Sufficient rainfall and sunlight in Nanning are the conditions for the existence of those animals and plants.

City Flower

Hibiscus rosa-sinensis linn or 朱瑾花in Chinese is the city flower of Nanning, which symbolizes union, bloom and prosperity. It is planted in subtropical and tropical areas, and  it is featured with its big flower and fresh color, and a long flowering phase-blooming in four seasons. In 1986, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis linn is officially declared as the city flower of Naning, and it represents the culture and spirit of Nanning, and also represents the harmony of human and nature. Hibiscus rosa-sinensis linn is everywhere in Nanning, and it flowers in four seasons, since Nanning is a green city. This beautiful flower optimizes the appearance of Nanning, and promotes the development of related green industries.
