Nanhu Park
Nanhu Park is located in Qingxiu district, and is a park having water scenery and subtropical garden scenery, which occupies an area of 192.2 hectares. Nanhu lake is an important part of this park, with an area of 930,000 square meters, which accounts for 75% of the park. Except the lake, it has three gardens and other recreation facilities.
Nanhu lake is originally the Yong stream linked with Yong river, and when there is a flood in Yong river, tremendous water comes to the stream and causes disasters to farming fields and houses. In the Tang Dynasty (618AD-907AD), it was unearthed to a lake to prevent flood. Then people plant trees and flowers in the lakeside, and build corridors and pavilions, and in 1972, thislake is featured with lots of subtropical trees and flowers. The lake is divided into three parts, the upper part, the middle part, and the lower part, and has a lake line of 7,975 meters. On the lake, there is a bridge with nine openings, a lake-crossing causeway, a path around the lake, and a green belt with a width of over thirty meters, and those places are perfect for photo-taking.
The three gardens are herbal garden, bonsai garden, and orchid garden. The herbal garden has invaluable herbs of more than 200 species. The orchid garden is completed and opens to the public in 1973, and it covers an area of one hectare, and has plants more than one thousand pot of orchids of 52 species. Those are over four hundred pots of rare orchards presented all the year. The bonsai garden opens to the public in 1978, and covers an area of 1.2 hectares. This garden has elements like pavilion, corridor, shed, bridge, water, stone and tree, which are the typical features of southern garden. It is divided into three sections, and the first section consists of small pots and large pots like evergreen tree, the second section has pots of large, middle and small sizes, and the third section displays small stone mountain, tree pot, pavilion, bridge and so on.
Exhibition hall of Baise Uprising is built in 1984, and imitates the living style of the Zhuang peole in Dolan region. It displays historic materials like documents and pictures about martyrs Li Mingrui and Wei Baqun, and about uprisings like Baise uprising and Longzhou uprising. In the square before the exhibition hall stands a monument about Baise Uprising, which is 4.5 meters high and has inscriptions. It is an education base for patriotism, and a large number of citizens and students visit here every year.
South square opens to the public in 2002, and it covers an area of 31 hectares. It is a grass land with sparse trees, and featured with big trees and famous trees. There are over 600 big trees of 21species, among them, the number of trees with a diameter of over one meter is up to 170, and the number of large palm trees amounts to 300. Most of those trees are local species and subtropical plants, like banyan tree, mango tree, and a little number of trees is imported from foreign countries, like bohdi tree.
Water curtain screen is 330 meters long, and consists of laser, music, spring and water curtain, which is one of the largest waterscape engineerings in China. It not only uses high-tech to make fabulous and magical dynamic waterscapes, but also can make spot projection, and project tourists' images on the water screen. It opens to the public in 2003, and becomes one of the most popular projects.
Nanhu park has beautiful scenery and convenient facilities, making it a popular place for citizens' walking, running and sightseeing.
