Liuzhou Introduction
Liuzhou, abbreviated as Liu, is an industrial city, the second largest city in Guangxi, and one of the five car cities, and it is the biggest industrial base in Guangxi. It is also known as the business port in the central of Guangxi, having a modern transportation system linking the southwest of China, middle of south, Eastern China, and Southern China together. Though it is an industrial city, it has beautiful natural sceneries with green mountains and clean water, and has a reputation as the biggest natural miniature garden in the world. Its city flower is Chinese rose, which has several colors and symbolizes passion.
Administrative Division
The administrative region is divided into five districts, three counties, and two autonomous counties, and three economic management districts. The five districts are Chengzhong district, Yufeng district, Liunan district, Liubei district, and Liujiang district. The three counties are Liucheng, Luzhai and Rong'an counties. The two autonomous counties are Rongshui Miao autonomous county and Sanjiang Dong autonomous county. The three economic management districts are Liuzhou high-tech industrial development district, Liudong new district, and Yanghe new district.
Geography
Liuzhou is located in the north of Guangxi, and borders on Guilin in the east, Liabin in the south, Hechi in the west, Guizhou and Hunan provinces in the north. It covers an area of 18, 617 square kilometers, and the downtown area is about 685 square kilometers.
Liuzhou is generally flat in terrain, and surrounded by mountains in three sides, having an elevation between 85 to 105 meters, which belongs to karst landform. Liujiang or Liu river goes though Liuzhou, which makes a natural basin in this region. Liu river is the second biggest branch in Xijiang of Pearl river system, having a water source in Guizhou province. Mountains scatter in Liuzhou region , and big mountains are like Mount Yufeng and Mount Ma'an.
Liuzhou has a climate of subtropical monsoon with four distinct seasons, and monsoon circulation is the biggest factor about its climate. In summer half year, south wind is flourishing, which makes summer humid, hot and rainy. While in winter half year, north wind overtakes south wind, resulting a cold, dried and rainless winter. It has an average annual temperature from 18.1 to 19.4℃ in the north of Liuzhou, and an average annual temperature from 20.1 to 20.7℃ in the south of Liuzhou. The lowest temperature is in January, which may reach -8℃ in the mountain top, and the average temperature of January is from 7.2-10.4℃. The highest temperature is in July, which may climb to 39℃, and the average temperature of July is between 27.2-28.9℃. It has an annual rainfall volume from 1345-1940 millimeters. Rainy season begins at the late of April and ends in September, and the rainfall of this period accounts for more than 70% of the whole rainfall volume of the year.
Liuzhou is rich in water and sunshine resources, but those resources are not evenly distribuated in region due to its terrain. Solar radiation is strongest in July and August, and lowest in January and February, and its amount in the south is much more than that in the north.
Natural Resource
Liuzhou has a land area of 1.86 million hectares, which accounts for 7.89% of the whole land in Guangxi, and its cultivable soil has four types, paddy soil, red soil, limestone soil, and alluvium. It has decades of species of wood tree, and is rich in water hydroelectric resource. It has food and commercial crops like rice, maize, sugar, peanut , and over 100 kinds of vegetable and over 20 kinds of fruit. Liuzhou also has mineral ores, like metallic ore and non-metallic mineral.
Population and Ethnic Group
It has a permanent resident population of 3.95 million and 48 ethnic groups according to statistics in 2016. The Zhuang and Dong are the two oldest indigenous ethnic groups in Liuzhou, and other ethnic groups are like the Han, Miao, Yao, Mulao and Hui. The population of ethnic minorities accounts for 52 % of the total population in Liuzhou. The Zhuang people mainly live in regions like Liujiang, liucheng, and Rong'an, the Miao, Dong and Yao mainly live in Rongshui and Sanjiang counties, the Mulao mainly live in regions like Liujiang and Liucheng, and the Hui mainly live in downtown areas and Luzhai county.
Economy
Liuzhou has a GDP of 275.56 billion yuan in 2017, and ranks in the second among all cities in Guangxi. Liuzhou, as an industrial city, has a pivot in the second industry, which is the big part of its GDP. It has a modern industrial system, combining its supporting industries like automobile, machinery, and metallurgy, with its traditional industries like pharmaceutical industry, and forms advantages for large enterprises, as a result, thousands of industrial enterprises station here. The development of its third industry is in a rocket, and it has a strong retail industry. It provides lots of investment opportunities in the third industry. As a business port, it has many business facilities like shopping mall and shopping center.
