Liuzhou Industrial Museum
Liuzhou Industrial Museum is located in Yufeng district, close to Wenchang bridge and Sunshine 100 business district. The museum has a total area of 110,000 square meters, and has a building area of 60,000 square meters. It has exhibition halls like industrial history hall, and ecological living hall, and has over six thousand pieces of industrial objects, and over eleven thousand pieces of documents and pictures. Liuzhou Industrial Museum is the first industrial museum in Guangxi, and a comprehensive museum gathering exhibition for industrial history, industrial heritage protection, scientific knowledge popularization, and leisure tourism.
Liuzhou Industrial Museum opens to the public in 2012, and it has several indoor exhibition halls-industrial history hall, Liuzhou enterprises exhibition hall, ecological living hall and engine exhibition hall. The outdoor exhibition has two functional zones, the exhibition zone and service center. The exhibition zone displays industrial parts and products, like steam locomotive, large-duty loader, dyeing machine and so on. The service center has a shopping building, including many leisure facilities like a 4D theater.
The industrial history hall is built from a double-floor textile workshop, and has an exhibition area of 12,000 square meters, displaying industrial equipment and industrial relics used or produced since 1902. Those materials show over one hundred years' development of Liuzhou industry, and tell how Liuzhou industry starts and how it develops from a weak phase to a strong phase, and the fighting and innovation spirit of Liuzhou industrial. Liuzhou enterprises exhibition hall has an exhibition area of 4,000 square meters, and it is designed from a textile workshop, and it keeps the original appearance and historic relics of that textile workshop. This enterprises exhibition hall is divided into three parts, and displays some famous enterprises in Liuzhou, like Huahong pharmaceutical, Wuling automotive, and Liugang/Liuzhou steel group. The ecological living hall is to show the exploration for a new path of industrialization and the harmony of industry, city ecology and living environment under the background of environmental destruction.
It has a great number of exhibition items, and some items have great importance and value to Liuzhou industry. Three pieces of steel rail have more than one hundred years, which are found in an outdoor heap of discarded steels in Guangxi Jiali electric manufacturing group Co., Ltd. The steel rails have several words, and read “made by Hanyang ironworks in 1902” and “Hanyang ironworks in 1913”, and these old steel rails have great historic value. It also displays many equipment for making necessities of life, like oil, sugar and cloth. Two equipment of oil press and rice milling are displayed in an exhibition stand of 50 square meters, and they are traditional tools used by people in the past. The oil press equipment is operated by human power, and the rice milling equipment is operated by water power or animal power.
The first car produced in Liuzhou, is Mutan automobile made in 1933, and its fuel is charcoal. Mutan automobile is made under the background that the price of gas rockets at the war times, and Guangxi is abundant with forest resource. It is the first chapter of research and development for internal combustion engine and the beginning of automobile-making in Liuzhou.
The first warplane in Guangxi is named Zhu rong zhang hao and it is made by Liuzhou manufacture. At the war times, 1931, the Gui warlord bought a batch of airplanes and established its air force, and Liuzhou became an air force base. But later, the trading of airplane is blocked, thus airplane-making is a top priority. Zhu Rongzhang is the chief of the airplane-making project, who once worked in Boeing, and he and his team managed to design and product a warplane under limited conditions.
It also exhibits a gasoline engine of the first generation in China, which is made by Liuzhou machinery in 1953. Though it has only four horsepower, it can be used to play theater, illumination and draw water, which creates a new times for producing small internal combustion engines to Liuzhou machinery. It has lots of other industrial items, like electric lamp, air compressor, bicycle, and sewing machine. Beside those real items, there are pictures for a clear and easier understanding.
In Liuzhou Industrial Museum, you will have a study about the developing history of Liuzhou industry, and you can see lots of industrial items, some are used in daily life, and some are used machinery workshops, which are a part of modern history of Liuzhou.
